Mikey and I would like to thank you all for your support and partnership in helping grow our great state. It is through this support, dedication and collaboration that we have helped move this state forward.
For the past eight years, we have worked together to create a better climate for economic growth. That climate included providing the right incentives, reducing taxes, and remaining aggressive in economic development. And, through these efforts, North Dakota has provided the right environment for economic growth and prosperity.
Since then, we have seen this state thrive. By focusing on our strengths and capitalizing on the industries where North Dakota has a clear competitive advantage, including value-added agriculture, advanced manufacturing, technology-based businesses, energy and tourism, we have seen a growth in jobs and businesses. North Dakota has become a leading state in energy production and exportation in both traditional and renewable energy resources. The Centers of Excellence continue to grow, making our state a leader in innovation, research and development, and we have begun work to reform our K-12 education system, creating equity among our schools. But, while we have made great strides, North Dakota is just in its beginning years of growth, and we can do more.
Already we have begun to take our progress to the next level. Programs such as EmpowerND will expand on our energy capabilities, and talent development initiatives will give workers the skills needed to excel in an increasingly competitive world. We have built the infrastructure that will close the distances that divide us and make technology the driving force for North Dakota's rural communities and overall economy.
These efforts, however, do not merely create a better economy for North Dakota-they create a better quality of life for our citizens. Our economic growth allows us to continue investing in our priorities of education, taking care of our seniors, children and those who need help, and providing our citizens with an quality of life that is second to none.
