We have made great progress in North Dakota, but we can do more. Together, we will move North Dakota forward by building upon the six pillars that have created the foundation for North Dakota's growth. These six pillars are education, economic development, agriculture, energy, technology, and our quality of life because these are the keys to keeping our young people here in the state and attracting others to North Dakota. This focus has brought real results for the state of North Dakota.
Under Governor Hoeven:
- Our economy has grown by nearly 50 percent to more than $26 billion - or more than $1 billion a year since 2000.
- We have provided the largest tax reduction package in the history of our state.
- We have created 30,000 new jobs, and today, we have between 10,000 and 15,000 jobs we are working to fill.
- Personal income has grown 38.81 percent - faster than the national average of just 29.37 percent.
- Average wages have increased by 26.87 percent compared to just 20.38 percent nationally.
- We've achieved the greatest reform in K-12 education in more than a generation, which is backed by $200 million in new funding since 2001.
- North Dakota's annual exports have risen 225 percent to more than $2 billion…the fastest export growth among all 50 states for 2007.
- We have created a $400 million reserve fund that will prepare North Dakota for the future.
- We have used our economic growth to invest in priorities like education and taking care of North Dakota's most vulnerable people.
